Just splatting down linkage for an interesting AMV; the footage is from the FF movie from last year? and the music is an orchestral/choral piece, but for some reason it's not streaming smoothly at the mo.
I've been wading through waaaay too many AMVs lately; can't quite decide whether to list some of my favorites for public consumption. One huge hurdle is that I tend not to look at AMVs unless I have some previous familiarity with the show or the music/audio, and at this point I don't recognize about 80% of even the band names involved, esp. the popular ones such as Linkin Park, Evanescence, and I dunno what-all.
Yes, yes, I am now so tragically unhip that it's a wonder my bum doesn't fall off, pace Beeblebrox.
On edit: now that I think to look up the usage, evidently "pace" in that last sentence means the opposite of what I'd always thought. Alas. I continue to have a vague ticklish sense that there's still some single fancy-schmancy loanword, or perhaps brief phrase, for indicating an indirect quotation, but for the life of me I can't figure out what it is.

on 2006-07-09 05:20 am (UTC)I have very little knowledge of Final Fantasy in general, but apparently this is from a movie (FF: Advent Children?) that was released in Japan last year, possibly spliced together from the cutscenes of several different chapters of the FF7 game. I didn't see the 2001 movie, though, and am barely sure whether I have even seen the wombat-consort play an early version of FF on the PC. But there was another AMV (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VM6wRt0V878&search=vindaloo) using footage from the same source to the tune of one of the Brit anthems at the World Cup; I thought the graphics were pretty though drifting into pixeliciousness toward the end, hence looking for more FF:AC AMVs with clearer images.

on 2006-07-09 02:45 pm (UTC)I just get a frozen image of the first frame; it doesn't seem to actually load. Oh well.
My understanding of Final Fantasy is that, with a couple of exceptions, each game (and movie) is completely unrelated to any of the others--different plots & characters, different settings--and I admit to some confusion as to what therefore makes them a series. All I've actually seen of it is The Sirits Within, plus the first few scenes of Final Fantasy X before I got bored with repeatedly getting killed and having to play through the whole damn thing again.
Because I'm a grouch, I have to say the music to that last linked AMV doesn't fit the onscreen action at all; and furthermore, what a terrible anthem: "Na na naaa, na na naaa, naaa naaaaaaaaaa... ENG! LAND!" is about on the level of "IIIIIIIIIIIII love New Yoooooooooork! (For a great vacation!)"
And they're all pretty fifteen-year-olds with pointy hair, too. Grar. Not a morning person.

on 2006-07-09 08:18 pm (UTC)WRT "Vindaloo", I didn't say it was a *great* (or possibly even *good*) AMV. Heh. Actually, according to Wikipedia, the song was originally conceived as a deliberately obnoxious/nonsensical parody of sports anthems in general, but then was adopted into standard use thereof anyway. The action... is actiony; it's pretty rare IME for the clips to be terribly well matched with the lyrics (just like standard music videos, really), which is something that I also look for but seldom find. But in that dimension, the visuals kinda match the "Vindaloo" lyrics in their gleeful lack of coherence.

on 2006-07-09 08:46 pm (UTC)Ah: "Yankee Doodle Dandy" syndrome!
I've seen some pretty well edited songvids (including a TPM vid I saw at a con that managed to pack much more of an emotional wallop than the actual film). I'm rather partial to this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZkVHUajYK0), myself.

on 2006-07-09 03:39 pm (UTC)And why is it, pray tell, that most RK AMV's are set to heavy metal? I guess I shouldn't care since they all contain the same Kenshin/Saitou, Kenshin/Shishio fight scenes. I thought I'd never get tired of watching those. Wrong again.
