Rubber cement update: overnight soaking in water plus art-gum -> complete residue removal. After another three hours of individual magatama-peeling. Urgh.

Have finally seen some of the new Battlestar Galactica, after the wombat-consort brought home a rental of the pilot movie last night. I dunno-- coupled with some of what I've heard about recent episodes, I had a certain sense of "Yes, it's all very nice to have realistic gritty issues that overlap somewhat with current events... but I find those issues unpleasant enough in current events that I don't really want to see them again as entertainment." Then again, I was slogging through various ineffectual attempts at removing rubber-cement residue the entire time, which may have both diluted my already-random focus and made me cranky. Presumably we'll start renting the first-season episodes and watching some of those too, at least when they show back up on the shelf at the rental place.

I was so-so wrt the First Season of BSG, but I was riveted towards the end. Lots of good pay-off omg-wtf stuff going on at the end. Yikes.

We've got some eps of Season 2 (or one ep? whatever) backlogged on tivo. I presume we'll watch it within a week, but it's been taking a backseat to Doctor Who, South Park, Lost, Steeler games, etc.

I would say that this is one of those series that strongly rewards being watched in order. That said, the miniseries-plus-first-season is a lot more tightly scripted than much of what follows, and I frankly found the attempts at political metaphor in the third-season premiere to be forced, at best. (I'm also gradually watching the list of still-likable characters grow shorter and shorter.)

Ack, we're on Season 3? Shoot, okay, then season 2 is what had the omg-wtf stuff going on at the end.

I just can't keep my seasons straight anymore. I watch way too much tv.

To be fair, both seasons so far have had omg-wtf stuff at the end (and at the mid-season break, the second year), though Season 2's was a bit more so.

Back to the magatama:

Hmmm. What about:
Bleach?
Turpentine (or mineral spirits)?
Soaking in Goo Gone?

The thing about bleach, turpentine, mineral spirits, etc. is that I'd have to deal with some unhappy combination of sticking my hands into them (well, okay, I can probably get chemical-resistant Nalgene gloves at the hardware store these days), having fumes evaporate out during the soaking period, breathing more fumes while I work with it, and safely disposing of the stuff.

I dunno, when I got down to the damp bottom of the bowl, the rubber cement that'd stayed wet overnight had become soft and easily rollable off. Of course, by then I'd already painstakingly art-gummed all the magatama that were sitting on top of those, whose rubber cement had all dried back out. A lesson to keep in mind for next time, if there is one. Grumble.
