Oh, they've been around for a while. (An RPG called The Riddle of Steel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Riddle_of_Steel) calls attention to itself by being the only RPG "approved by ARMA.")

this is what the HACA (Historical Armed Combat Association, I think) evolved into when they appropriated more scholarly types to participate. The folks at the core of this group have pretty good reputations....
