1.) Watched the first few discs of Full Metal Panic, which I persist as thinking of as the AU adventures of Van Fanel and Allan Schezar because of the character designs and VAs. Entertaining, but so far doesn't seem to hold up to rigorous plot logic or deeper character exploration; then again, this is only about halfway through the first season.

2.) I also have Allan Schezar on the brain because of my afterthoughts about Avatar: The Last Airbender, in that both Allan and Zuko are in some ways more central to the deep structure of their respective stories than Van or Aang, in terms of their characters' pre-existing interrelationships and tensions. Allan's father disappeared on a mad quest for Hitomi's grandmother (and the wombat-consort insists that Hitomi's mother must be Allan's half-sister), Allan's (other?) sister became a major spoiler, and Allan himself has vastly complicated the royal politics of Asturia via its princesses; the Fire Nation's backstory is all about Zuko's variously functional family, including the rivalry between his (then-unwitting) grandfathers etc. Aang is rather handicapped in this regard by his relative lack of pre-existing relationships other than Bumi and his own past incarnations, versus Van at least having Balgus (however briefly) and his own spoiler sibling.

3.) Have been mulling over various ideas for RK AMVs, but sadly have no idea how to attempt them, or at least insufficient desire to attempt the necessary software learning curves.

3.) Dear Natsuki Takaya: Damn you for making me feel sorry for Akito. Damn you a lot.

4.) I continue to be somewhat more mesmerized by the logistics of the various Haruhi genderswitch projects than the original Haruhi material itself.

5.) And I'm still semi-paralyzed about optimistically ostriching away from RaceFail '09, for sundry reasons whose exploration would require de-ostriching, but am frankly appalled by one participant apparently redirecting incoming links to her blog back out to malware sites, because you just don't DO that. Considering the real security consequences, it's not that different from mailing out anthrax spores. However, still mostly ostriching. (urk)

Eh, the first FMP season is really so-so. FMP Fumoffu is much more fun, has far better production values, and doesn't pretend to have a plot which helps immensely.

*snert* Somehow unsurprised. The DVD set does include Fumoffu, which should probably help-- the "Angelic Days" treatment probably works much better on source material that's lighter than Eva to start with (though comparison with the "regular" Eva manga didn't help either, what with being even darker than the anime in some ways like the deaths of Toji (though it's not as if he had anything to do after that anyway) and Kaworu's infamous kitten).
