First impressions, despoilerized.
Trapdoored characters-- where did Crookshanks disappear to before this book started, and Bellatrix' husband (not that she cares)? What happened to various people who drift offstage during the course of HP7 and are never heard of or mentioned again: the Dursleys? Umbridge? Skeeter? How many peripheral characters ended up dying in the huge battle at the end, and which ones?
The Snitch's "flesh memory": WTF? Where the hell did that come from, except as a convenient plot device? And how the heck did the sword get back into the hat for Neville to pull out at the end?
As part of the transformation of Snape to emo woobie, Lily was given an enormous booster shot of MarySueness. Of course James loved her, and Slughorn still got misty-eyed nearly two decades later (and if he was so impressed by her potions skills, why didn't he give any props to lil' Severus, whose improv notes gave results that still amazed him? Which leads to obvious fic in which Snape and Lily were Potions lab partners as per
trickofthedark, but enough of that for now)-- and now Snape has been carrying a torch for her all this time, to the extent of letting Dumbledore bludgeon him over the head with it?
Speaking of which, I was very impressed by the reveal of Dumbledore as a crafty manipulative bastard; likewise, various "Go [name]!!!" moments for assorted characters (Trelawney and Molly especially). It was also nice to finally glimpse Tonks' parents, esp. after
buttfacemakani's delightful riff on them.
