movie/DVD review: Akage (Red Lion)

The wombat-consort and I have been borrowing various DVDs from the local library system's staggeringly eclectic collection. Last night's viewing was a Japanese movie from 1969 whose original title was Akage; literally, this just means "Red Hair", but AnimEigo tarted up the translation a bit to Red Lion. It may be of interest to some RK fans, since it's set during the Bakumatsu and involves the Sekihoutai as well as a bit of battoujutsu. I'm not sure that I'd actually consider it a *good* movie, but it's certainly thought-provoking in various ways.( Read more... )
