...So yesterday I received another shipment of packing material, which included several types of decorative ribbon-type stuff. I'd ordered some large spools of satin cord in hopes of eventually using them to make some simple necklaces with decorative knots. To my horror, one spool had sprung loose at the end and was spilling out a spaghetti plate of dark red satin cord reminiscent of one of
travelingtiger's litters of baby snakes (last thumbnail on the page).
At first, since I was able to locate both ends of the cord, I had hopes of untangling it fairly quickly by combing out long loops. This soon bogged down to the point where it seemed like a better idea to brute-force it by gradually pulling the ends through their three-dimensional labyrinth.
Do you know how long it takes to untangle an extremely tangled puddle of 200 yards of satin cord? Hint: by the time I was done, it was 3am and I figured, "Screw it, there's no point trying to get some sleep now."
(At least it's low-friction; I remember doing this with yarn and having to keep stripping off the accumulating lint donuts from around the strand.)
So now all I have to do is learn how to tie some decorative knots. Buying/borrowing some books might be a good start. I've been eyeing some of the ones at the public library, but since I didn't have a good supply of satin cord until now, there didn't seem much point in bringing them home. There're also a fair amount of online resources, which I suppose brings me to the real point of this post besides whinging:
Oooo, pretty.
