Spicy peanut noodles

We've been having a few days of hot weather here and there, which means the revival of our seasonal standby meal, spicy peanut noodles. They're tasty, vegan (for those who care about such things), and only require cooking once every few meals of the stuff. ExpandRead more... )

"Together..." (preliminary notes)

Just starting on the early stages of another doujinshi translation, because it adds an illusion of purpose to my empty life :b

This story is on pp 11-32 of Aitou XX (1999), brought to mind by seeing a minor discussion of some isolated pages. In general, it seems much more pensive and less playful than most of Yamaguchirow's Kenshin/Kaoru stories; all I know so far is that it takes place in Kyoto and Kenshin is bandaged up. (The bandages remind me of the surprise ending to "Cohabitation Age", or maybe vice-versa.)

At the moment, I'm a few pages into rote transcription of all the kanji/kana onto notebook paper, and only a few lines into kanji lookups and transliteration to romaji. The process has become slightly more efficient now that I have a quick-change multicolored pen, so I can instantly switch back and forth between different inks to indicate the speaker. (I should probably start looking for ink refills soon, before I actually need them.)

The kanji lookups involve some isolated bits of translation, but I haven't actually started crunching through my dictionaries and grammar references yet. Once I do, I'll start typing in the romaji and working out the raw glosses. Actual translation into recognizable English sentences will take slightly longer.
