The funny thing (other than the fact that I always see "magatama" and think "Otogizoshi") is reading your discussion of plans for the red-themed necklace the week I'm reading Caroline Walker-Bynum's "Wonderful Blood" , which is about aspects of late medieval religious belief focused around Christ's blood, including a lot of discussion of the artistic and literary depictions of blood as drops, "petals," streams, oblong shapes, etc., etc. There's a lot of discussion in the first couple of chapters about the symbolism and meaning of everything having to do with blood; not exactly an element, sort of love and violence, somewhat(?) but interesting nonetheless.
Hmm... green.... that is a tricky one; as you note, it's associated with envy and with nature, and those aren't opposites. And if you wanted to do a "rebirth" kind of theme, it seems like it would need to go from brown into green, which might screw up the colorscheme (yeah, I have no pretensions about being able to design anything, really)
