wombat1138Background sourcebook for the game, listing legendary/literary/historical origins. Someone else's quick outline overview here.
Some minor additions to her notes:
1.) The entry in part two which she glosses as "Orders of many restaurants(?)" should be "The Restaurant of Many Orders", according to the artbook. It's a story by Miyazawa Kenji-- English translation here with link to original Japanese text. The key linkage seems to be an establishment called RESTAURANT WILDCAT HOUSE (西洋料理店 山猫軒); I think the pronunciation would be Seiyou-ryouri-ten Yamaneko-ken though I'm not entirely sure about the first half, which seems to literally translate to "place that serves Western-style food". Yamaneko literally means "mountain cat". The full name of Chef Yama in Sei'an City is Yamaneko; over on the North Ryoshima Coast, Chef Umi's full name is Umineko, literally "ocean cat" but the common name for a type of seagull that presumably has a catlike call.
2.) In part three, she points out the "hammer" pun in the moles's names: Otsuchi and Kotsuchi, according to the furigana. I have no idea how that pronunciation arises from the kanji in the moles' entry, but Otsuchi Kotsuchi would be written as 大槌小槌 with the "hammer" kanji. This seems to be the intermediate step in a pun based on the "D.Gray-man" series, which I know nothing about but which Google sez has a character, Lavi, who fights with a size-changing hammer nicknamed 大槌小槌, with the slightly altered pronunciation "Ōzuchi Kozuchi".
