I've found larger-volume nasal irrigation to be helpful when my sinuses are in the gooey caked-up stage, but I'm not sure what it would do for the ears-blocked-up deliquescent stage. Could be worth a try, though-- not like it's all that troublesome/expensive; all you need is a ~8oz travel bottle with a tapered squirt nozzle (like on dish-handwashing detergent) and a solution of ~1/2 tsp salt in warm water.
(Tilt head forward over sink so that when you squirt the nozzle into one nostril, the fluid sloshes through your sinuses and out the other nostril instead of down into your lungs; switch back and forth between nostrils, and have a large handkerchief and/or towel ready to blow the last residual liquid into.)
