Think I've tracked down a book with a wider range of info on traditional Japanese dyeing; hopefully the copy I've ordered should show up within a week or so... based on the Amazon textsearch, it probably won't have a specific mention of hi-iro, but at least it'll have a list (and maybe swatches?) of the various shades of red they could get from available mordants.
